Palomar Welcome Center / Johnsen Schmaling Architects As the harbinger of a large-scale development slated for LEED certification, the Palomar Welcome Center utilizes an abandoned one-story warehouse building on the edge of Milwaukee’s Park East redevelopment corridor. The area, an urban desert formerly occupied by an underused freeway spur, is slated to be transformed into the Palomar District, a series of mixed-use projects that will connect downtown to the adjacent neighborhoods (read more…)
Phoenix Civic Space Shade Canopies / Architekton The Phoenix Civic Space weaves together the downtown community with ASU’s Phoenix Campus to create a vital urban center adjacent to the city’s new light rail system. Saint Georges / Guerin & Pedroza Architectes In 2003, the agency Guérin & Pedroza was put in charge by the City of Toulouse of renovating and restructuring an area of 10,000 sqm which houses a shopping arcade and underground parking spaces. This complex, designed at the end of the 1970s, extends from the middle of a block of buildings dating from the previous decade located in a historical neighborhood to the heart of the old city (read more…)
SOS Children’s Villages Lavezzorio Community Center / Studio Gang Architects SOS community center combines services for foster care families and neighborhood families in one building. SOS is an international not-for-profit agency committed to training foster parents and reuniting siblings. Multi-faceted public spaces in the building encourage a range of learning opportunities and social interaction.
